BIG Ideas • small words vol. II

Updated: 2 days ago

As the seasons change, the air cools down and the autumn colors fill our landscapes. The Fall has always been a sacred and special time for me and my family. My midwestern roots run deep. In my bones, I can still feel myself holding onto the last days of warmth and bracing myself for the Back-to-School chaos to come. We celebrate the Jewish New Year with reflection & renewal, gratitude & growth and a recommitment to ourselves for the year ahead.

Sitting down to write this seasonal message to my community, a new feeling has come over me, one that is not usual this time of year. It is being in limbo, of taking a step forward and not yet knowing where the path may lead. It is the sights and sounds of being on the cusp of something new. It is standing at the threshold of a grand atrium, peaking from the shadows at the glimmers of light to come. It is the In-Between space; where one chapter is closing and the next has not fully begun.

Glancing out the window, I see and feel the seasons change, and yet I can not escape the push and pull I feel internally. I know wholeheartedly that the path ahead WILL indeed unfold as I move forward. But the feeling in my bones is to stay right where I am and bask in the sunlight one more day. I sense many of you can relate….

Biologically we understand that our heads and hearts are connected, and yet I believe that the greatest distance we sometimes must travel is between what we know and what we feel.

So with this motivation and realization, I am honoring the feeling of this natural progression. And at the same time, I am shifting the lens to the promise and possibilities of this new season of life. I am reminding myself that where my focus goes, my energy will flow. I am lightening the limbo-load by sharing it with my family, friends and community. I am practicing patience with myself and the seasonal changes to come. I am cultivating curiosity about the transitions ahead. I am consciously choosing and curating my life this season.

As I have said previously “these in-between moments can feel uncertain, but they are also where growth, possibility and opportunity live.” So once again, I am leaning into a meaningful mantra that has provided a through line in my personal and professional life; BIG starts Small! Truly the smallest sparks create the biggest impacts. Today I am sharing my Big Ideas • small words • vol II to inspire and spark the glimmers and growth in all of you!

Just as poet Drew Chalker wrote, “people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime”; I believe in the purpose and power we all have to inspire one another for growth and renewal this season, and always.

Be careful not to overlook the little & small things, for they are Everything that matters!
